Small = Big

“Again he said, ‘What shall we say the kingdom of God is like, or what parable shall we use to describe it? It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest seed you plant in the ground. Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds of the air can perch in its shade.’” Mark 4:30-32

Often when we think about living for others or do something for Jesus in your everyday life we think “I’m gonna do as much as I can”. It’s not wrong to think like that and that attitude is really good. But sometimes we trick ourselves into thinking that it’s only the big things we do that matters in the Kingdom of God. Then it’s really encouraging to read this passage that actually tells us the complete opposite. It’s the small seeds that grow to be the biggest. It’s the same way with the small initiatives and outreaches at school. They can seem small and insignificant, but in a while it will give bigger results than what you could ever dream of. If you turn the question around you can instead think “What’s the smallest thing I can do?”. I bet there’s a lot of ideas and thoughts that you’ve said were a fail because it wasn’t big enough. Think about those things again and think of it as a mustard seed.

Here are small things you can do during these times when we can’t go out and meet our friends or go to school the same way!

  • Send a text to a friend you haven’t talked to in a while, ask them how they’re doing!

  • Pray for your friends!

  • Send a bible passage to someone you think needs it!
