Hold On

“ Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. He said: ‘In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared about men. And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’ For some time he refused, but finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care about men, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give see that she gets justice, so that she won’t wear me out with her coming!’ And the Lord says, ‘Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting the off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?’” Luk 18:1-8

Jesus wants to teach us to always pray and don’t give up. What’s the key to getting your prayers answered? To continue praying. God wants to answer our prayers, but why doesn't the answer come right away then? Why don’t my classmates become a Christian after the first time I prayed for them? Maybe people have different amount of steps left before they can meet God for real. Maybe Sara in your class has 278 steps left to God, and then you need to pray 278 prayers for her to meet him. Or Peter in your math class has 25 steps left to God, then you just have to pray 25 more times for him to meet God.

If you are several Christians in school then you don’t need to pray all 278 prayers by yourself for Sara and Peter to become Christians, but you can help each other. So help each other pray. Encourage each other to hold on in prayer. The widow in the Bible verse shows that holding on to prayer is the key to getting what one is entitled to. God tells us that when we come to Him with our prayers over and over, He will answer us. Not because he is angry, like the judge in the bible verse, but because he is good and on the contrary wants to answer our prayers! If even the angry judge answered the widow, how much more will God not give us answers?
